Women legislative leaders coming to Northshire

MANCHESTER — Legislative leaders from throughout the Northeast will gather in the Dorset and Manchester area next week to discuss collaboration throughout the region.

The National Foundation of Women Legislators in the Northeast Region will meet Friday through Sunday, Aug. 16-18, to discuss regional issues, global matters and more for three days.

Linda Joy Sullivan of Dorset is a Vermont representative for Bennington-Rutland and is the regional director for the New England States of the NFWL. She is serving as host for the event and has lined up members of the community has come out to provide food, gifts, guided tours, hikes, business discounts, as well as being house hosts for state legislators.

The state directors from each state within the Northeast Region will be coming for the retreat to discuss collaboration across the New England States. The NFWL has been in existence for over 80 years.

In addition to the legislative leaders, attendees is expected to include subject matter experts, experienced legislators, organizational leaders and administrative policy directors.

They'll be tackling issues such as climate issues, business development, natural and working lands, human trafficking, paid family leave, hemp production, minimum wage, workforce development as well as other topics that are issues throughout the region and how different areas can work together to find solutions.

Saturday evening a panel discussion will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a dinner at The Barrows House.

While in the area, participants will have time to enjoy the Northshire.

"It is exciting that Dorset/Manchester will see these leaders enjoying our area of Vermont and all it has to offer on this weekend," Sullivan said.
