Winhall couple being investigated in underage drinking party

WINHALL — A Winhall couple is being investigated for allegedly throwing a party for young people that included a large number of underage drinkers.

Carolyn Crabtree, 54, and her husband Robert Crabtree, 55, were cited Thursday for the misdemeanor offense of enabling consumption by minors at a gathering at their home in November, according to Vermont State Police.

State police learned — through another investigation — that the Crabtrees hosted a party Nov. 2 for at least 40 "high-school aged children" at their residence on Read Road Extension. The party attendees were reportedly between 14 and 18 years old.

"A large amount of alcohol and underage drinking was reported at the party where Carolyn and Robert Crabtree were both present," Trooper Detective Lauren Ronan said in a release.

The Crabtrees are scheduled to appear at the Bennington Superior criminal court on March 23, state police said. Meanwhile, authorities are seeking information from the public as they continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information can contact Ronan at 802-442-5421.
