Webster's pitching leads Panthers over Witches

GREENWICH, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls baseball team picked up its third straight win, topping Greenwich 7-2 Friday on the road.

Evan Webster started on the mound for the Panthers and was strong all game long.

After allowing two runs in the first inning, Webster settled down quickly and ended up allowing just three hits the whole game as he pitched a complete game.

Webster was pounding the strike zone all day and allowed no walks.

The Witches jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, but Hoosick Falls scored three runs with two outs in the third.

Max Kipp had an RBI double and Cody Hodges and Jake Sparks followed with singles to score runs.

The game remained 3-2 until the seventh when Kipp had a RBI single. Hodges had the big hit of the inning, hitting a two-run double, before Sparks finished it with a RBI single.

Hoosick Falls sits at 3-1 with the win and travels to play rival Cambridge Monday.

Greenwich tops Hoosick Falls

GREENWICH, N.Y. — A 10-run third inning was the difference as Greenwich topped the Hoosick Falls softball team 15-3 Friday afternoon.

The Panthers scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning with Sophie Estes knocking in a pair and Marissa Landry driving in the other run.

Hoosick Falls struggled in the field, making seven errors.

Lily McCauliffe and Eliza Jordan both hit home runs for the Witches and combined for nine runs batted in.

The Panthers drop to 3-1 on the season and play rival Cambridge on the road Monday.

Sign-up for new girls wrestling club

BENNINGTON — There will be a sign-up for a brand new girls wrestling club at Catamount in Bennington.

It will take place on April 15 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the club on Pleasant Street for girls kindergarten to 12th grade.

The cost of the club will be $50 for girls K-6 and $75 for girls 7-12.

Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the first practice set for April 29.

Zem-Benn Road Race set for May 5

BENNINGTON — The 41st Zemianek Bennington Road Race will take place on Sunday, May 5, at the Park McCullough House in North Bennington.

The 3.8 and 10k races start at 10 a.m. and the kids fun run will be at 9:30 a.m.

The cost is $3 for a kid, $20 for an adult, $50 for a family of four and $10 for each additional member.

T-shirts are guaranteed to all the registrations received by May 2.

Registration can be done online at www. runreg.com/zembenn or a mail in registration form can be picked up at The Richards Group, Bennington Rec Center, Revolution Fitness or Anytime Fitness.

Proceeds for the event go to the Zemianek Scholarship Fund at Mount Anthony Union.

Archery competition

BENNINGTON — The Catamount Bow Hunters will host a 3-D competition on Sunday. Registration is from 7 a.m. to noon, the cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youth and cubs free with paid adult.

Members and non-members are welcome. The club is on Fuller Road, the first left past the Apple Barn.
