Vermont football schedules released

BENNINGTON — The most recent football schedules have been released by the Vermont Interscholastic Football League...

BBA, in its first year as a Division I program, will have to face the last three D-I champions during the season.

The Bulldogs' schedule starts with them on the road on August 30 at Burlington. After the home opener on Sept. 7 against 2016 champion Hartford, BBA goes back north for a date with semifinalist Colchester on Sept. 13.

After that, Burr and Burton will host a champion vs champion battle as Mount Mansfield, last year's D-I title winner, comes down to Taylor Field for a showdown on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.

The annual rivalry game against Mount Anthony comes next on Sept. 27 at Spinelli Field, and then the Bulldogs host 2017 champion St. Johnsbury on Oct. 5.

The regular season ends with a game against CVU at Applejack Field on Oct. 11 and on the road in South Burlington against Rice on Oct. 19.

The Bulldogs finished 10-1 last season, its only loss to D-I Middlebury.

Mount Anthony, who is in Division II for the third straight season, has its schedule begin with a date at Spinelli Field on Aug. 30 against Spaulding, followed by a pair of away games against D-II semifinalist Bellows Falls on Sept. 7 and then against North Country on Sept. 13.

Then in consecutive weeks, Mount Anthony hosts 2018's Division II finalists in Fair Haven on Sept. 20 and then against Burr and Burton on Sept. 27.

MAU starts October on the road at Mount Abraham on the fifth and then they travel to the Northeast Kingdom to face Lyndon Institute on Oct. 12.

The Patriots finish the regular season with its annual rivalry game against Brattleboro on Oct. 18 at Spinelli Field.

The game will be a divisional matchup once again, as the Colonels have moved down to Division II this season.

Mount Anthony finished 3-6 last season, winning its crossover game against Otter Valley.
