VAE hosts live jazz at Powers

NORTH BENNINGTON — The Vermont Arts Exchange is kicking off a series of Halloween-themed events this Friday with "Party at Powers."

Hosted by Powers Market, the event will feature live jazz, courtesy of the Jeff McRae Trio, as well as food from the Powers' kitchen and drinks from nearby Kevin's restaurant. On display will be a collection of Halloween posters from over the years said VAE executive director Matthew Perry. The event is free to attend, but Patterson said the group will be accepting donations at the door as a way to keep future events that way.

This will be just the first of several late-October events hosted by the VAE, which will culminate with the 25th annual North Bennington Halloween Parade. Next Friday, Oct. 27, there will be two art exhibitions on display. First, at the Village Train Depot from 6-8 p.m., local artists will present "Scream Dream." Then at the Left Bank from 7-9 p.m., students from Bennington College will present their own works, in a gallery entitled, "Trick or Treat." The Scream Dream gallery will be open for additional hours during the parade.

The annual parade will take place on Halloween, Tuesday Oct. 31 at 4 p.m., beginning at the post office. As always, some of the village's best costumes will be on display.
