United Counseling Service welcomes two new leaders

BENNINGTON — United Counseling Service as appointed Amy Fela as director of operations, and John "JD" Hebert as director of facilities and safety, Lorna Mattern, UCS's executive director, has announced.

Fela, who joined UCS in 1999, most recently served as executive assistant. She will serve in the newly created position of director of operations. "Amy will work to enhance the internal organizational processes and infrastructure while ensuring the organizational effectiveness in implementing our strategic goals," Mattern said.

Fela will be responsible for overseeing the agency's daily operations. "I am proud to be a part of this agency. I am inspired by our mission and the critical work done by our staff," she said. She also serves as chair of the agency's award-winning wellness program.

Hebert will oversee the public safety, maintenance, facility renovations and project development at the 16 UCS facilities throughout Bennington County. "We are excited to have JD join our team. He brings a wealth of knowledge about safety protocols, crisis management and leadership success." Mattern said.

Hebert was most recently with the Department of Mental Health in Northampton, Mass., where he was the director of property management and emergency response coordinator. "I am very excited to join UCS, and am looking forward to the opportunity to lead our Facilities and Safety team," Hebert said.

He received his bachelor's degree in public relations and an associate's degree in emergency and eisaster management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He has extensive experience in management and safety and is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician and a trainer with FEMA and the National Safety Council.

United Counseling Service provides support and guidance to help individuals and families improve their quality of life. UCS provides outpatient counseling and addictions services, emergency mental health services, extensive rehabilitation services, home and school-based services, employment services for people recovering from mental illness or with developmental disabilities and a nationally recognized Head Start program.
