STRATTON — Two former Stratton Mountain School skiers were nominated to the U.S. Alpine Ski Team this week, according to the Vermont Alpine Racing Association.

George Steffey was named to the B team on the men's team, while Alice Merryweather was named to the B team on the women's team.

Merryweather, a member of SMS's 2015 graduating class, has Olympic experience. She competed in the 2018 PyeongChang games where she finished 15th in the alpine combined and 49th in slalom for Team USA. Merryweather was a late addition to Team USA's 2018 Olympic roster as an injury replacement for Steven Nyman.

Merryweather won gold in the women's downhill during the 2017 World Junior Championships. She currently attends Dartmouth College.

Steffey attended Dartmouth College after graduating as the valedictorian at SMS in 2015. Since leaving SMS, Steffey has competed in the World Cup, World Junior Championships and many other highly competitive skiing competitions. Steffey has reached the podium twice in 2020, both at Mont Edouard during the Nor-am cup. He won the men's giant slalom race with a combined time of 2:29.74. He also placed second in the men's parallel slalom event.

Steffey has been a member of the U.S. Alpine Ski team since 2017, according to their website.
