The past, colorized: Main Street, 1946

Posted

Now that we're looking at our first frost advisories of the season, here's a trip back of the winter of 1946. This image from the Bennington Museum, colorized by Tim Wager, shows a woman walking down Main Street in Bennington. The storefronts, from left, are Noveck's Camera and Music, Bennington Bookshop, the entrance to the Banner office, the Jennie Yett women's shop, Fruitland Bakery, Raleigh's Restaurant, Atkins Jewelry and Carrol's Drug Store. Parked at the curb are two brand-spanking-new cars: a green 1946 Plymouth, and three cars down and in the foreground, a 1946 Cadillac.
