SVL girls basketball names all-stars

BENNINGTON — The Southern Vermont League named its girls basketball all-stars over the weekend.

In the A Division, Mount Anthony's Grace Mahar was named to the first-team, as was Burr and Burton's Carol Herbert and Grace Pinkus.

Mahar, a senior, had a strong year for the Patriots, averaging more than 20 points per game and setting the career record for rebounding. She also became the 10th female player in MAU history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, finishing her career with nearly 1,200 points.

Her best game scoring came against Burlington, where she scored 31 points in a defeat.

Herbert, a junior, led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points per game as BBA reached the Division I quarterfinals.

Pinkus, a senior, had her best career season in 2019-20, averaging 11 points per game and coming up with a number of double-digit scoring games.

Honorable mentions included Mount Anthony's Rachael Jones and Emilie O'Brien and Burr and Burton's Jordan Smith.

Jones and O'Brien and Smith are all seniors.

In Division D, Arlington's Schuylar Nolan was chosen for the first team.

The Eagles' freshman averaged about 13 points a game and some of her best games came against high-level competition. Her most points in a game were 25 against D-IV finalist Mid-Vermont Christian back in early January.
