SVC women's soccer receives academic honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The United Soccer Coaches (USC) has announced the recipients of its 2016-17 Team Academic Award with the Southern Vermont College women's soccer program being one of the 856 collegiate squads to earn the honor.

The USC (formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America) recognizes crews that post a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and higher with the accolade.

The 2016-17 SVC women's team chalked up a 3.21 GPA following the spring semester to collect its sixth-straight such laurel and they were the only team from the New England Collegiate Conference to earn the award.

"I'm thrilled that the team earned the award once again," said Southern Vermont seventh-year head coach Michael Zauzig. "When I first started coaching at Southern Vermont College, this was a goal; this award is now an expectation. These young women are students first and have made a commitment to their work in the classroom. I personally want to thank the professors and support staff at SVC who help make this a reality. Everyone at the College should feel proud and know that they consistently have an impact on the academic careers of these young women. I'm proud of their accomplishment and look forward to working towards this goal in 2017-18."

A total of 553 women's teams from across the country picked up the honor while 303 men's teams were bestowed with the accolade. 215 schools saw both their men's and women's programs collect the decoration.
