Sun and Fun! Festival awarded RiseVT grant

BENNINGTON — The Sun and Fun Festival has been awarded a $600 Amplify Grant by RiseVT, organizers announced Tuesday. Set for Aug. 24 this year, Sun and Fun is a free festival that promotes community, the environment, and sustainability.

The festival's goal is education — in a festive atmosphere — about ways to get involved in the community, consume less, reuse/recycle more and to care for our planet. The grant money will be used to purchase reusable, foldable shopping totes that will be handed out to festival goers.

"Since at this time next year single use plastic bags will finally be phased out in VT, it's important that folks have reusable ones," festival organizer Kathleen Shaw said. "We have a very limited budget and are thankful RiseVT is supporting us."

Bennington RiseVT program manager Andrea Malinowski said the choice was an easy one: "RiseVT is thrilled to offer Amplify Grant funding to the Sun & Fun Festival as the mission of the festival aligns so closely with that of RiseVT; to encourage people to get out and moving and bring awareness to taking care of our Earth and precious resources which nourish and give us life - all while building community and having FUN."

Now in its fifth year, Sun and Fun! festival is organized by the Eaarth Advocates of the Second Congregational Church, UCC. Last year, it was the winner of a national award in the `Community Inspiration `category by the Interfaith Power and Light group. For more information, go to or FB: Sun and Fun.
