Shaftsbury woman dies in ATV accident

POWNAL — A Shaftsbury woman was killed Friday when her all-terrain vehicle crashed on a gravel roadway off County Road in Pownal, Vermont State Police reported.

Trooper Cody Sholtes said in a release that Tammy J. Potter, 50, died in an ATV accident reported at about 7:07 p.m. The crash occurred on an unmaintained road off County Road.

Sholtes said Potter lost control and was thrown from her 2013 Yamaha ATV. She was not seat-belted in the vehicle and not wearing a helmet at the time, he said.

Police said Potter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members from the Bennington County Sheriff's Office, Pownal Valley Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department and Pownal Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
