Seth Brown | The Pun Also Rises: 'The Governor Down in Georgia'

Posted

The governor down in Georgia

Was just signing an abortion ban.

It's the most extreme

Bill the country's seen,

Which was basically his plan.

Now it's true that many women

Don't know they're pregnant at six weeks.

But this draws contempt

From Governor Kemp

Who says, "Girl, you don't need to speak

I just signed this new abortion bill

Called HB481

So abortion's fate

All throughout our state

Will be through when the year is done.

Now this bill grants fetal personhood.

Those are people in my view,

Even if unformed.

But I'm not as warmed

By the rights of those like you."

The woman said, "Pregnancy's rarely known

'Til a period is missed.

And now by that time,

You'd make it a crime?

In effect you're banning this."

Georgians, get your protest signs and march into the streets,

'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia, and it's called "Fetal Heartbeat."

Now if this bill falls, women will get healthcare like they should,

But if it stands, then Georgia's messed up good.

The bill allows them to prosecute

any woman who aborts,

And by extension, terminated

pregnancies of any sort.

That's another reason HB481

Is so dang scary,

Women could be charged

With a crime at large

Even if they just miscarry.

Now the prosecutors say

They'd never make charges of this kind.

But it's clear they lied;

Some already tried

Long before this bill was signed.

Forced birth for women or they face jail

Fetus has rights if the bill says so

Do women have rights then? No, girl, no

Now Hollywood stopped filming there

In reaction to this bill

Said, "Our female colleagues aren't safe here

If women don't have free will.

Death from gunshots, lack of healthcare,

And pure poverty is rife.

So if you're fine with that, don't claim

That your position is pro-life."
