ARLINGTON Second Chance Animal Center will hold its annual Holiday Celebration event on Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon to 3 p.m.

There will be several activities for everyone including a scavenger hunt and prizes for kids, sugar cookies to decorate and eat, workshops to create holiday decorations (bring your own photographs or use the ones provided at the workshop), and a hot chocolate bar to warm the day. They will also have an area where kids can make holiday treats for the dogs currently living in the shelter.

"Over 7,000 people visit our shelter each year," said Cathi Comar, executive director. "But one of our favorite days to host the public is when we celebrate the holidays. It's such a festive time to gather with the community and to provide fun activities for children and their families."

Second Chance has pet-related items available to purchase now through the end of December, including dog collars and leashes, dog treats, animal carriers, holiday attire and much more. Thanks to large donations from the Bennington Petco store and Orvis, 100 percent of the purchase price directly benefits the shelter's many programs and services.

Please note that Second Chance's public hours on Dec. 14 will be 12:00-3:30 p.m. Due to the day's activities, no animal adoptions will be completed on the day of the event. You are invited, though, to visit with the cats throughout the event day and submit an adoption application for processing on the following day.

The Holiday Celebration is free and open to the public.

The Second Chance Animal Center is located at 1779 VT Route 7A in Arlington.
