Sandgate to vote on $124K general fund

SANDGATE — Voters will be asked at the annual town meeting next week to approve a relatively level general fund.

The floor meeting will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at town hall. The election of local officers will take place on Tuesday. Polls will be open at town hall from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Races for local offices are uncontested. Select Board members Karen Dzialo and Thomas Santelli are each running unopposed for another one-year term. Mike Hill seeks another three-year term. Sandra Reidy seeks another three-year term as treasurer. Celeste Keel seeks another three-year term as school director. Eleanor LaCross seeks another three-year term as delinquent tax collector. Chris Barlow again seeks one-year terms as town and school moderator.

Voters will be asked to approve a $124,961 general fund. The proposed budget for fiscal year 2019, which begins July 1, is down $2,160, or 2 percent, over the current year.

A $354,992 budget for the highway fund is up $27,518, or 8 percent, over the current year.

Voters will also be asked to appropriate $18,157 to support 18 area organizations. That includes $7,500 to the Arlington Rescue Squad, $3,400 to the Martha Canfield Library, $3,000 to the Arlington Recreation Park, and $1,200 to Arlington Nursing Service. All other requests are below $1,000.

The general fund, with appropriations included, totals $143,118. The combined total is down $1,360, or 1 percent, over the current year.
