Route 7 shut down as crews battle house fire

Posted

POWNAL — Route 7 in Pownal has been shut down as crews battle a house fire on the 200 block of Route 7.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Frost Lane and Bryce Road. Flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of a wood home sitting on a hill above the road as crews sprayed water and foam to suppress the fire. Fire crews brought a hose up the steep, snow-covered driveway.

Both lanes of travel on Route 7 were redirected so fire crews could access the scene. Southbound traffic was redirected onto Monument Road. It is not clear where northbound traffic was rerouted to.

Smoke still billowed out of the eaves of the home as of around 1:50 p.m. and loomed over stopped traffic on Route 7.

This story will be updated.
