HOOSICK, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls Central School will be holding the Ron Jones Memorial Golf Tournament on July 17 at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. Jones, a longtime teacher and football coach for Hoosick Falls died earlier this year at the age of 51.

The tournament will serve as a fundraiser to honor Jones's life. The entry fee is $75 per person. Teams of four will participate in a scramble. The price includes green fees, a cart, prizes, and lunch.

Eamonn Degraff was introduced to Ron Jones 12 years ago. Degraff served on Jones's coaching staff on the football team. Degraff said he, along with a lot of other coaches, will be participating in the tournament.

Degraff remembers Jones as a kind soul, and described the culture Jones built within the Hoosick Falls football program as a "family."

"Ron kind of took me under his wing as if I was one of his own," Degraff said.

There will be two separate tee times for the tournament, one at 8 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m.

According to Hoosick Falls athletic director Tom Husser, the tournament is nearly half full.

Degraff said that the tournament will give people throughout the community a chance to reflect on Jones's life.

"It will be the first time that a large group of people have been together to grieve for him," Degraff said. "I think ultimately that there will be a lot of smiles and a lot of stories being told. A lot of people will be proud to be part of that day, in his memory."
