Ron Jones Memorial Golf Tournament tees off
HOOSICK, N.Y. — The Ron Jones Memorial Golf Tournament took place on Friday at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. The sold out event honored Jones, a longtime teacher and football coach for Hoosick Falls who died earlier this year at the age of 51. In total, 117 golfers took the course.
Bennington's bats quiet in VSBL doubleheader
FAIR HAVEN — Bennington dropped both games of their Vermont Summer Baseball League double header versus Lakes Region on Thursday.
Lakes Region was powered by their pitching in both games, allowing just one run, unearned, on two hits in the first of the back-to-back and claiming a 7-1 victory.
Luke Trombley was responsible for driving in Bennington's only run in game one with a RBI single.
In game two, Bennington totaled five hits in their 7-2 loss.
All three runs allowed by Lakes Region pitcher's in their 14 innings of work were unearned.
Lakes Region had their struggles in the field, committing four errors in game one and another two errors in game two.
Bennington's next opportunity to get back in the win column comes Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Manchester.
Bennington Horseshoe Club season begins
BRISTOL — Bennington Horseshoe Club members had their first competition of the year on July 12 at the Sodbusters Horseshoe Club. Gale Greene led the way for Bennington in the World Champ's Classic 2020, finishing second in Class A.
Greene finished with a 6-2 record. Greene had 143 ringers out of 242 shots, 59.09 percent.
Denny Young of Bennington Horseshoe Club finished fourth in Class B, tossing 85 ringers out of 312 shots. Also in Class B for Bennington, Wade Hill placed sixth with 82 ringers on 270 shots.
Three other Bennington Horseshoe Club members placed fifth in their class; Joe Hill in Class D, Jeremy Mentiply in Class E, and Steve Cross in Class F.
Jeffrey Woodcock finished sixth in Class C and Robert Mentiply finished seventh in Class F.
