Sunday worship on Zoom at St. Peter's

SCC continues to host a weekly community meal Sundays at 5 p.m. Meals are available to all who are hungry and are served to-go.

Rev. Mitchell, longtime Zion rector, set to retire

A longtime community religious leader in Manchester is stepping down from the pulpit on Sunday.

The Rev. John Mitchell, for the past 25 years the rector of Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester, will preside over the congregation one final time on Sunday before beginning his retirement.

The service is scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. online via Facebook Live on the Zion Episcopal Church Facebook page, or on the Zoom online conferencing platform at

"Rev. Mitchell has been a well-known spiritual leader and friend to the greater Manchester community," Jamie Hastings said on behalf of the congregation said in a letter to the editor of the Journal. "He has helped to establish several community outreach programs and has opened the doors to Zion Church to numerous local non-profit and cultural organizations. He has also made Zion a venue for world-class Christian speakers and events, including healing services and retreats and presided over one of the fastest growing Episcopal parishes in the U.S. for many years."

Mitchell is married to Dr. Jane Uva. The couple plans to retire in Cincinnati, Ohio.
