READSBORO — Vermont State Police are looking for the person they believe stole a car from a Massachusetts campground and crashed it on Shippee Road around 3:30 Thursday morning.

Readsboro Fire and Rescue personnel, responding to a medical call, contacted the state police when they arrived at the scene. Police said two people who were at the scene told them that the car, a 2003 Ford Taurus, had been stolen from a camp just over the Massachusetts border where they had been staying.

The two said they tried to track down the car on foot, and discovered it on its roof in a ditch, with no one around.

Police said they believed the driver lost control while trying to negotiate a moderate curve in the road, most likely as a result of excessive speed.

Vermont State Police are asking anyone who might have information about the incident to contact them at 802-442-5421, or to submit information anonymously online at www.vtips.info or text "CRIMES" (274637) to keyword: VTIPS.
