Police: 20-year-old arrested for DUI after crash

SHAFTSBURY — A 20-year-old Bennington man was cited for drunk driving on Sunday after Vermont State Police said he crashed a car into a fence.

Troopers said they were called to the intersection of East Road and Glastenbury Road at about 4:45 p.m. for a report of a car that crashed into and damaged a fence. The vehicle's occupants left the scene on foot; the caller reported seeing alcohol containers in the vehicle. Troopers located two males who fit the description of the occupants on East Road.

Troopers said they determined the driver was Ryan M. Brillon and that he had been drinking alcohol prior to crashing into the fence.

Brillon was taken into custody and given a criminal citation for DUI above the legal limit, underage alcohol consumption and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. He's tentatively slated to appear in Bennington criminal court on March 5.

Police said Brillon was under house arrest at the time and was turned over to the Bennington Probation and Parole Department. As of Monday afternoon, he was being held in Rutland prison, according to Vermont's online inmate locator website.
