BENNINGTON — Phil Lewis, co-owner of the Bennington Bookshop, recently joined the staff of Hoisington Realty.

"I had been interested in following a career in real estate for a number of years," Lewis said. "But we wanted to get established in the bookshop and Bennington first."

Then he saw an ad in the Banner: Hoisington was looking for new agents.

"That was the push I needed," he said.

Lewis graduated from King's College, London, with a degree in Biochemistry and completed a master's degree in higher education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Since graduating from King's, he has been an educator and has taught at schools around the world.

Lewis moved to the United States in 2008, joining his wife, Linda, in North Carolina. He and Linda moved to Bennington in 2015 when they purchased the Bennington Bookshop.

With its thriving arts community, a professional theater, and an award-winning museum, Bennington seemed like an ideal place to call home, he said.

He was particularly drawn to the beautiful scenery of the area. Throughout the warmer months, he likes to kayak on the lakes that are found in the local forests and mountains.

"I feel fortunate to have discovered Bennington and privileged to be a part of the community," Lewis said.
