Panthers fall to Mechanicville at home
The Red Raiders edged out the Panthers 60-56 in a game that had strong playoff seeding implications.
The Red Raiders took advantage early in the game, but the Panthers fought back to get the lead down to four after one quarter.
Before the game, Hoosick Falls seniors Noreen McAuliffe and Eliza Whitman, along with Mechanicville seniors Sam Pasinella, Mia Teal and Kelsey Harrington, were honored with flowers.
Whitman must have used all that positive energy to her disposal because the forward came out firing early in the game. Whitman scored 10 of the Panthers' 14 first-quarter points, finishing the day with 13 points.
Hoosick Falls used its late first quarter momentum and rode it into a strong second quarter run. The Panthers outscored Mechanicville by four in the second frame to tie the game at 30-30 at the intermission.
The Red Raiders came out strong after the halftime break and held a four-point lead going into the final quarter. They would keep the lead at four by the final buzzer.
Logan Thayne had another big night for Hoosick Falls. The sophomore followed up her 37-point performance against Greenwich with a 27-point performance against the Red Raiders. On top of her offensive exploits, she was a force on the defensive end with multiple blocks.
Pasinella has been the Red Raiders' leader throughout the season and she shined once again Thursday night. She led Mechanicville with 19 points.
Jada Brown, Charli Goverski and Amy DiSiena all contributed well for the Red Raiders as well.
Hoosick Falls athletic director Tom Husser said the Panthers' Wasaren League crossover game will be Saturday on the road, but was unsure of the opponent.
