POWNAL — The official opening of Hoosic Bend Trail will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The trail is located at the Pownal Waste Water Treatment Facility property on Dean Road at the south end of North Pownal. Parking will be available at the town garage on Dean Road off Route 346. The rain date is Oct. 20.

Volunteers from the Recreation Task Force have come together to create a series of events and activities to celebrate the opening of the trail. Confirmed events include a nature walk led by Matt Ball, a scavenger hunt led by Jennifer Boucher, an introduction to geocaching led by John Boucher, and a storybook trail introduced by Dawn Rodrigues. Each event will repeat throughout the afternoon so that participants are able to enjoy more than one. Refreshments will be provided and paid for by the Friends of Pownal.

There will also be an official dedication of the trail to acknowledge the late Bruce Martel for his contribution and support for the creation specifically of Hoosic Bend Trail as well as more recreation activities in general in the town.

The committee is seeking more volunteers to help guide cars to parking and direct people to the trail area.

The event has been made possible by the Town of Pownal, the Recreation Task Force, Discover Pownal, and countless volunteers.
