Off on an outing, circa 1890

In this photograph, colorized by Tim Wager, we see a group of nattily dressed people off for a trip in the Mount Anthony carriage. "It's unknown if this carriage was affiliated with the Mount Anthony House, which burned to the ground in the 1860s and was replaced with the Hotel Putnam," Wager said. He said the carriage was known to take groups to the picnic area on Mount Anthony, Barbers Pond and Sucker Pond. Here, it's shown stopped in front of Potter's Store at 528 East Main St. in Bennington.
