No injuries in Pownal rollover
The truck was traveling southbound on Route 7 just before 1 p.m. when the operator, Welmer Montilla, 35, of Providence, R.I., lost control of the vehicle, according to Vermont State Police.
When Montilla's vehicle left the west side of the roadway, he tried to correct the vehicle's route of travel, Trooper Wayne Godfrey of the Shaftsbury barracks said in a news release Monday evening. Montilla overcompensated, causing the truck to leave the west side of the roadway again and ultimately to roll down an embankment, coming to a rest on its passengers side.
The driver did not report any injuries. He was evaluated by Pownal Rescue Squad as a precaution.
The driver was the only occupant of the box truck, which was labeled as belonging to Electronic Recyclers. The 2014 Freightliner M2 was totaled. No other vehicles were involved.
Montilla was issued a civil violation for not maintaining his lane of travel.
The affected stretch of Route 7 alternated between being closed entirely to traffic or reduced to one lane for much of the afternoon as the truck and its cargo were removed from the scene. The road had reopened by 6:30 p.m.
