Moonlight Ski event coming to Prospect


WOODFORD — A Moonlight Ski is scheduled for February 16 at Prospect Mountain.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and a full course dinner begins at 6 p.m.

After dinner, a moonlight ski out to a festive bonfire is the attraction of the event, followed by dessert.

For passholders, it's $25 and non-passholders is $35. Children under 12 are $15.

NHA to host 12U tournament

MANCHESTER — The Northshire Hockey Association will be hosting the Vermont State Youth Hockey Tournament at Riley Rink this weekend.

"We're honored to have been chosen again as host for the Tier 3 12U Division," said Karen Grabher, NHA Tournament Director in a press release. "We will be hosting eight teams from all over Vermont and it will be exciting to have them all play at NHA's home ice here at Riley Rink."

Hundreds of hockey players, parents and fans will converge at Riley Rink during the weekend. Eight teams, including one representing Northshire Hockey Association, will play a round robin format. Advancing teams will battle in semi-finals the following weekend at another tournament location. The top two teams will advance to the State championship weekend in March.

"We're eager to welcome the teams to Manchester and have them play at one of the top facilities in the state," Grabher said. "We are looking forward to an exciting weekend of youth hockey."

A game schedule will be posted online at Admission will be $2 for adults and $1 for kids ages 12-17. Kids under 12 are free. All gate proceeds will benefit Northshire Hockey Association. Please come support your local youth hockey team!

Stratton's Holscher going to Junior Worlds

STRATTON — Stratton Mountain School Alpine athlete Diego Holscher is off to the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Val di Fassa, Trentino, Italy to represent his home country, Chile, for the second time.

Holscher is a member of Chilean National Ski Team, and will compete against some of the world's best U20 Alpine Skiers in disciplines including Downhill, Super-G, Alpine Combined, Giant Slalom, and Slalom between February 18 and 27, 2019.

"This will be Diego's second appearance at World Junior Championships, and over the years he has become comfortable competing in Europe and is familiar with his international peer group," said SMS Alpine Director Mike Morin. "We work cooperatively with the Chilean National team and they will be looking after him while he is in Europe this time around. It is great to have this relationship of the athletes moving back and forth from the home program to the national team and back. Last year Diego was able to get on the U18 podium in SG, and we feel this year he will be competitive in all four disciplines."

Stratton skiers compete in Vermont Cup

MANCHESTER — The Stratton U16 team competed in the Vermont Alpine Racing Association's Sync Vermont Cup Slalom Final hosted by nearby Bromley Mountain. This weekend's race was the last of 10 Vermont Cup Series events, which take place annually and utilize the World Cup Point system. SMS's U16 women dominated the Overall U16 Vermont Cup Standings, with Chloe Lathrop, Jackie Culver, and Eliza Sullivan taking the top three spots for the series.

This weekend it was Tess Beyer who led the results for the SMS Women, winning 1st overall among the U16's and 2nd overall in the slalom races. Tess was followed by Sullivan in 2nd and Culve in 3rd to sweep the U16 podium. Maeve Fiske and Erik Holm also scoring 3rd place podiums. Brett Haber won 4th followed by Pedro Holscher in 7th to round out SMS Alpine's collection of top-ten results.

MAU coaching openings

BENNINGTON — Mount Anthony Union High School is looking to fill multiple head coaching positions for the 2019 spring season.

The positions of varsity girls lacrosse coach, varsity girls tennis coach, and JV boys lacrosse coaches are open to interested candidates.

Bennington Little League registration

BENNINGTON — Registration for the 2019 season will be held on the following dates: February 7, 13, 14 and 21 at the Fire House on River Street in Bennington from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

All players' ages 5 to 12 years of age in the Bennington and surrounding area looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates.

For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required. Registration fee is $75 per player with a family maximum of $100 for all divisions except T-Ball (Instructional) which has been reduced to $50. The price includes the annual fundraiser.

HOOSICK, N.Y. — Registration has started for the Hoosick Falls Little League. There's an early bird registration in January, a $5 discount for each registration.
