Meeting to discuss community policing
BENNINGTON — The Vermont Partnership for Fairness & Diversity will facilitate a community meeting, Exploring Our Vision and Mission for Bennington, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the Bennington Fire House.
The meeting will ask the questions, "What is our aspirational vision for Bennington?" and "How does the Bennington Police Department mission support that vision?" Participants will explore the mission statement of the Bennington Police Department and its relationship to an aspirational value statement created by the Select Board, Police Department, and town staff in Bennington.
The aspirational statement is, "Bennington is an engaged, diverse, and resilient community where all contribute to our shared vitality and benefit from an outstanding quality of life."
The mission statement of the Bennington Police Department is "to enhance the quality of life within the community by achieving excellence in law enforcement and public safety while fostering a positive relationship with all of those we serve."
Participants are encouraged to review community policing materials ahead of time at http://benningtonvt.org/community-policing/
This is an in-person meeting with a maximum of 50 people on-site. Participants will need to register in advance so that Fire Department COVID mandated regulations are not exceeded.
All who attend must wear a face mask, per Gov. Phil Scott's order, and social distancing will be required. Call 802-442-1037 to register for the meeting. A Zoom link will be added to the town's website so that Bennington residents who cannot attend in person can participate remotely. The meeting will also be carried live on CAT-TV.
The Bennington Fire House is located at 130 River St.
