Roundup: MAU volleyball falls in three to Pittsfield

BENNINGTON — The Mount Anthony volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Pittsfield on Monday night.

The Generals won 25-22, 25-8 and then 25-19 to take the victory.

Mackenzie Mayhew had a pair of aces and five assists, while Kirstin Murray added an ace and three kills. Amber Metcalfe came up with four aces, seven digs and one kill.

For Pittsfield, Brennah Brickle had seven assists and four kills, while Mya Manson added five assists. Maria Butler had four kills and four aces.

Hoosick sweeps Cambridge on links

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls golf team swept Cambridge on Monday, 5-0.

Ryan Bloomer and Mathew Smith won their matches against Nethaniel Woodcock and Ben Epler, respectively.

Connor Smith, Miles Smith and Stephanie Merwin all won by default.

Mathew Smith shot 37 to score the medalist honors and the next match for Hoosick Falls is Tuesday against Greenwich at the Battonkill.

Panthers blast North Warren

HOOSICK, N.Y. — Gracie Lohnes scored twice to lead the Hoosick Falls field hockey team to a 5-0 rout over North Warren on Monday.

Lohnes scored the only goal of the first half before scoring the final goal with 6:12 left off an assist by Jayda Stell-Gulley.

Eliza Whitman scored to double the lead six minutes into the second half before Lillian Hickey made it 3-0 with a penalty stroke.

Stell-Gulley scored with 11 minutes left, off an assist from Hickey.

Zoe Gress made two saves for Hoosick, who is 6-0. Jaclyn Lurtz had 11 saves for North Warren.

The Panthers travel to Granville on Wednesday.

Griffiths Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — The New England Collegiate Conference announced on Monday its weekly award winners for the period ending September 17, 2017 with Southern Vermont College freshman Rileigh Griffiths taking claim to the Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week honor.

Griffiths came up big to help Southern Vermont defeat Plymouth State University 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday. She scored her second goal of the year, which was also her second game winner of the season, in the 96th minute to give SVC the road victory.

The rookie and the Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday when they host SUNY Canton for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Steve Colvin 5K

HOOSICK, N.Y. — The fourth annual Stephen Colvin Memorial 5K is coming on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Wood Memorial Park in Hoosick Falls. The race will begin at 9 a.m. from the park and money raised will benefit the Stephen Colvin Scholarship Fund awards.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female overall finishers in both the walk and run categories. Also the top male and female in each of the following categories will receive a medal: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.

T-shirts will be available while supplies last. Early registration is $10 by Sept. 20 and $15 until race day. All students are $10 for registration.

Arlington coach openings

ARLINGTON — Arlington Memorial High School & Middle School has three coach openings for the 2017-2018 school year: middle school boys head basketball coach, varsity boys head basketball coach, and varsity baseball head coach.

Coaches oversee all aspects of their program. The positions are open until filled. Interested candidates should submit a completed Coaches Application form, which can be found on the school's website,, under the Athletic Department link as well as a resume of coaching experience and a list of references with contact information.
