Mass. man charged with DUI after 1-car crash

SOMERSET — A 71-year-old Colrain, Mass., man was charged with driving under the influence after his pickup truck was found crashed head-on into a tree on Airport Road Monday evening, Vermont State Police said.

Responding to a passing motorist's call, police discovered that the driver, Thomas Spencer, showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was transported to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington for non-life threatening injuries, and issued a citation to appear in Windham County Court to answer to the charge of DUI - Alcohol on Aug. 11.

The crash was reported at 7:40 p.m.

Wilmington Fire and Rescue assisted, police said.
