Fireworks display takes place Aug. 1

The Pownal Valley Fair Committee will sponsor a fireworks display on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 9 p.m.

According to the fair committee, the north portion of the parking lot at the former Green Mountain Racetrack will be open for families to come and view the fireworks display. To adhere to social distancing requirements, cars are to be parked at least 6 feet apart, and there will be no large gatherings outside of cars, no tailgating and no loitering. All attendees must leave the parking lot after the fireworks display.

Families who can view the fireworks from their homes and properties are encouraged to do so.

The fireworks are a traditional part of the annual fair, which had to be canceled this year because of the coronavirus.

American Red Cross blood drive Aug. 6

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. in Bennington.

Blood drives canceled during the pandemic have increased the need for donors. Red Cross staff, volunteers, and donors will be masked and observe social distancing to the greatest extent possible.

To make an appointment to donate, visit www.redcrossblood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or text bloodapp to 90999 to download the app to your smartphone. As always, walk-ins will be accommodated as well.

Celebrate National Farmers Market Week in Arlington on Friday, Aug. 7. The winner of the market's Recipe Contest will be announced (enter online before Aug. 5).
