Letter: Trump deserves no credit for Obama economy
To the Editor,
Ron Alderman's letter about Trump's record demands a response for accuracy and clarity.
At the height of the 2007-2008 recession, the US unemployment rate was 10 percent. By the end of President Obama's eight years in office, it had dropped to 4.7 percent. For 2019 (pre pandemic), it was 3.6 percent.
It is thanks to the Obama Admiinistration, working with a Democratic-majority Congress in 2009-10, that economic programs and financial reforms were put in place making possible the 12-year recovery from 2008-2020.
Thinking of it as the "Trump economy" points to a very short memory.
The claim that the Obama administration had a systematic program to separate immigrants at the border is a Trump lie designed to deflect blame for this cruel practice. Any number of sources reject Trump's false claim.
