Letter: Town purchasing policy has long been on the books

I write in response to a letter in Tuesday's Banner.

As reported Monday night, the town has had a purchasing policy in place since 1982. It has been updated periodically, the last time in 1993. It was the staff, our finance director to be specific, who suggested that we update it once again given the changes in state and federal rules and the dollars we work with annually.

The Select Board agreed and formed a committee to work with staff to complete the update. The product presented last night represents many hours of discussion, give and take, and draft language to find a mutually acceptable policy that works for all. I believe we have accomplished that and look forward to the policy's adoption at the next meeting.
