Letter: Thanks for interest in Fair Trade vision

To the Editor:

Alliance Fair Trade Gifts and Tools For Change Workshop here in Bennington wants to thank all of you who visited us at Mayfest.

The Fair Trade vision works to empower small scale farmers and workers who are marginalized by usual trade practices, particularly in Third World countries. Under Fair Trade principles, workers are able to secure a fair wage for their area of the world, and work their way out of poverty. Many women are entering this workforce, learning viable skill sets to provide essentials for their children, and for the first time — have hope for a good future. This applies not only to developing nations, but to the USA as well. Alliance Fair Trade Gifts also connects with effective USA social businesses who train chronically unemployed women to gain employment, and to also have hope for a positive future for their families.

All profits from purchases here at our location at 198 Crescent Boulevard (in the lower level of the Missionary Alliance Church) go into Bennington organizations who are already effectively helping those individuals in poverty, and into buying more fair trade items for the shop.

We look forward to welcoming those new friends we made at Mayfest at the store location!

John and Pam Santarcangelo,
