Letter: Thanks for donations to Wreaths Across America

To the Editor:

After attending the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Vermont Veterans Home last year, I came away very touched by the ceremony. It was a beautiful tribute to the soldiers that had made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As wonderful as the ceremony was, I couldn't help but think about how great it would be if all of the grave markers could be adorned with a wreath. At that point, I decided to see if I could make it happen.

I was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Bennington community, as well as, surrounding areas near and far. With all of your help we raised enough money to honor every fallen soldier with a wreath. Together we made it happen. It was wonderful to see how many community members, young and old alike, came out for this year's ceremony.

The service organizations and individuals alike were so generous that we actually have a head start in the fund raising efforts towards the goal of honoring all of the soldiers again next year. I would like to thank the following people and organizations for helping me to see my vision come to fruition; none of this would have been possible without your generosity: Col. Al Faxon and the Vermont Veterans Home, Employees of Church Insurance Company of Vermont, Church Pension Group, Bennington Elks Lodge 567, Bennington American Legion Post 13, Bennington American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13, Bennington American Legion Squadron 13, Bennington Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 6471, Bennington Veterans of Foreign Wars , Bennington Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1034, Bank of Bennington, Students of Sacred Heart School, Bennington Girl Scouts, Bennington Boy Scouts, The Gift Garden, Beaudoin Paving, Manchester Veterans of Foreign Wars and North Brattleboro Veterans of Foreign Wars.
