Letter: No good reasons to own an automatic rifle

To the Editor:

It's a no-brainer, for God's sake! There is absolutely no good reason to allow anyone to possess an automatic rifle. None whatsoever. It's illegal to hunt game with them, so what possible need could they serve, except for mass murder? Now, here's the major sticking point in bringing about a ban: a so-called "lobbying" by gun manufacturers and the NRA. And the politicians they pay off.

Add to that the fact that there are not enough blowhard legislators in Washington, Florida, and elsewhere to close their pockets to the political contributions of these suspect enterprises. Have our legislators no conscience or moral fiber to place human lives of students and other citizens before their own pocketbooks? Pathetic. Despicable. Hypocritical.

I suggest we all write our legislators and ask them how much they accept in bribes — yes, bribes — from these purveyors of death.

Shame. Shame. Shame.

Maurice "Mo" Rancourt,
