Letter: Gratitude to SVC for its many contributions
The closing of Southern Vermont College is very sad news. Over the past twenty years or so that I have known the college, I have under-appreciated its contributions to our community. It was, for many years, home to Oldcastle Theatre Company. It trained many of the nurses who helped me or my family when we needed medical attention at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. More recently, my son attended the college and earned his bachelor's degree. A very good and inspiring psychology professor helped my son find his calling. My son's SVC education prepared him for graduate school, and he earned his master's degree in social work at UVM. I cannot thank the college enough for all the contributions it made to our community, and to my family.
The college's contributions were the result of a lot of hard work, through good times and bad, by the members of our community who served on its board of trustees or provided financial support. Despite the sadness and frustration surrounding the college's closure, we should appreciate the dedication, commitment and effort that went into keeping the college such a vital part of our community. The education the college provided our children, friends and neighbors changed lives, and will be the college's legacy. Thank you to everyone who contributed so much to supporting and guiding Southern Vermont College.
