Letter: Generous donation will touch lives

To the Editor:

I am writing regarding a generous member of our community, Mrs. Lillian Sleeman Seward.

Mrs. Seward recently made a major contribution in support of dental and cancer care provided at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. The funds support care for children and seniors at SVMC Dentistry and expand the Cancer Center's efforts to purchase new cancer treatment equipment, to provide continuing education for staff, and to make patient experience improvements to the facility.

This gift will make a tremendous difference in the lives of patients, their families, and our clinical team. It will broaden our ability to fulfill our mission of providing exceptional care and comfort to the people we serve.

Mrs. Seward has been a pivotal donor to many of the area's non-profit organizations, including the Autism Program at Molly Stark School, Bennington Free Clinic, Bennington Project Independence, Bennington Rescue Squad, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Dermatology, Department for the Visually Impaired, Meals on Wheels, The School of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales, and The Village School of North Bennington. Her support has made a tremendous positive difference for countless people who rely on these non-profits and the work they do.

We are so fortunate to have members of our community, like Ms. Seward, who are committed to improving the lives of others through charitable works.

Thomas A. Dee,

The writer is president and CEO of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
