Letter: Franklin Graham preaches love, not hate

To the Editor:

I would like to respond, in part, to Bob Stannard's Jan. 25 commentary.

Bob claims that Franklin Graham (president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) preaches hate. He does not. He preaches God's love, grace and forgiveness. He does not determine what is sin and what isn't. God does that.

I have heard Franklin encourage Christians to get involved in politics. He also addresses specific issues. It is his First Amendment right. The BGEA is not a political organization. That does not mean they can't address political, social and moral issues. There is no reason people of faith can't participate in the democratic process.

The BGEA rapid response team responds to multiple disasters each year. They include floods, wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes, school shootings and the shooting at a gay nightclub last year. They offer help, comfort and prayer for the victims. Samaritan's Purse helps with physical needs. This is done in Christian love. There is no hate in their mission.

Ray Koch,
