Letter: Congregation Beth El supports refugees, immigrants

To the Editor:

Recently, several synagogues in Brattleboro, Woodstock, Montpelier, Rutland and Burlington issued a letter of solidarity in support of refugees. Additionally, the synagogues helped to raise money across the state for three important organizations.

As we enter 2020, Congregation Beth El of Bennington wishes to affirm the importance of protecting the rights of immigrants and refugees and wishes to make clear that it stands with the other synagogues on this issue. We are reaching out to the signers of that letter to learn how we can work more closely and in a coordinated effort with them in the future. In the meantime, CBE is happy to support refugee and immigrant resettlement with a contribution to the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program in Colchester. Our contribution is made in full and somber awareness of how readily people can be persecuted and oppressed, be dispossessed, and even become stateless.
