Letter: Candidate seeks seat on MAU School Board

To the Editor:

I am writing to introduce my candidacy for a position on the Mount Anthony Union School Board. As a parent and a taxpayer, I am excited by the opportunities that are emerging to support our students and community. My goal is to continue MAU's traditions of academic excellence and opportunities for all students, while exploring new and creative ways to improve our area's education system.

My family and I have lived in Bennington since 2005. My husband and I choose to raise our family here because we firmly believe in the values of Southwestern Vermont, at the heart of which is a strong educational system. In the nine years that my two sons have been in Bennington public schools, we have been impacted by teachers and administrators who are student advocates and are passionate about their jobs. My goals as an MAU board member will be to support all students, actively listen to and learn from the district's educators, and fully appreciate the effects of educational spending on taxpayers.

In the area served by MAU, I see a region that is clarifying its place of leadership in Vermont. I am eager to be part of that leadership for our students, educators, and taxpayers.
