To the Editor:

Do you like the idea of moving toward an inclusive, green, sustainable, vibrant Vermont future? That's Lt. Governor David Zuckerman's vision. It's mine, too, which is why I'm voting for him for governor in the Democratic primary on August 11.

David Zuckerman first became involved in politics in college because of the climate crisis back in 1990, where he helped organize the 20th anniversary of Earth Day at UVM. He went on to a distinguished career in state government, while building a thriving parallel career as an organic farmer. I think I first met him at his stand at the old Farmers' Market in Burlington's City Hall Park, many years ago.

As governor, David Zuckerman will move Vermont towards a renewable energy transition by investing in programs like accessible broadband across the state, weatherizing our aging housing stock to reduce energy use, and more smart renewable energy projects. He'll also make sure that these programs are designed so that BIPOC, working-class and fixed-income elder Vermonters can realistically take advantage of them, instead of relying on tax breaks that only the wealthiest (and mostly white) Vermonters are eligible for.

I hope you'll consider joining me in choosing this passionate, experienced and thoughtful public servant to be the next governor of our beautiful state.

Mary D. Chaffee,
