Letter: Alarmed by prospect of change to mayor

To the Editor:

I am alarmed that any citizen of Bennington might buy into the concept of a mayoral form of town government!

My understanding is that town managers have special education and training in their chosen profession. We don't have to look too far to see that a populist bloviator might someday try to govern our town — and with absolute veto power to boot! Come on folks, wake up and smell the coffee. Would you trust your surgical care to an untrained doctor? Would you build a house with an untrained carpenter?

To suggest that a mayor or even a town manager might have the veto power over the combined wisdom of an elected Select Board is foolish.

Vote "NO" on the mayoral question.
