Hoosick's Flynn named Sage female athlete of the year
HOOSICK, N.Y. —Hoosick Falls graduate Megan Flynn was named as the 2019-2020 Sage Colleges Female Athlete of the Year.
Flynn had a standout senior season on the basketball court for the Gators.
She started in 27 games, helping her team to a 15-12 record and a trip to the Elite 8 Conference Championship, the first in the programs history. Flynn averaged a double-double with 13.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, leading her team in both categories.
Flynn was also named as the female recipient of the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average. She currently has a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student. Flynn maintained a 3.99 GPA during her undergraduate studies.
The Sage Colleges women's basketball coach Allison Coleman had high praise for the Hoosick Falls graduate.
"Megan has capped what has become one of the best senior season of any other player in Sage Women's Basketball history by earning the Female Athlete of the Year and Dean Robinson Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards." Coleman said. "Everything Megan has been able to do on and off the court is a testament to her hard work and dedication to being the best player, student and person she can be."
Flynn was also named to the 2019-2020 Academic All-America NCAA Division III Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of f America and became the first Sage basketball player honored with this award and just the ninth Sage student-athlete to achieve this feat.
Her on the court accomplishments include being named to the Empire 8 Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team for the 2019-2020 season. She also earned a pair of Empire 8 Player of the Week awards and a selection to the Empire 8 Women's Basketball First Team.
Flynn was also nominated for the Josten's Trophy and the Capital District Sports Woman of the Year.
A team captain this past season, she wraps her stellar career with 877 points, 684 rebounds, 44 blocked shots and a 51.9% field goal percentage in 86 appearances. She is The Sage Colleges 12th all-time leading scorer. She is also fifth in career rebounds and tied for eighth in blocked shots.
On the 2019-2020 season, she was the team's high scorer eight times, while also leading the team in rebounding 18 times. She added 12 double-double on the year and wraps her career with 19 double-doubles.
