Gypsy Layne to strut its stuff at Oldcastle
BENNINGTON — The burlesque troupe Gypsy Layne Cabaret and Company returns to Oldcastle Theatre for two nights of red-hot burlesque on Feb. 14 and 15. Doors for both nights open at 7 p.m. while the show starts at 8 p.m. This show is presented by the Vermont Arts Exchange as part of its Basement Music Series, and is for mature audiences only.
Valentine's Day has never been hotter, Gypsy Layne has never been better, and downtown Bennington has never been sexier when the Berkshires' beloved burlesque troupe kicks off its tenth season at Oldcastle Theatre. The Gypsies will present two evenings of high-octane entertainment that celebrate a decade of divine decadence and body-positive artistry.
From astounding swordplay to outrageous sketch comedy, eye-popping strips and toe-tapping songs, Gypsy Layne will tease you, please you, and warm up your winter once more, with feeling.
"Some of the numbers, we're taking our clothes off. There is that striptease. But [as in the words of a song from the Gypsy Rose Lee musical, "Gypsy"] 'You gotta get a gimmick,'" troupe founder Nicole Rizzo told The Berkshire Eagle's Benjamin Cassidy. "It's all about how can we create this fun aspect of, 'OK, if I'm going to do this number, what is the beginning, what is the middle and the end? Where can I bring in some laughs?' It's very, very cheeky, this bawdy comedy."
Tickets are $22 in advance through www.vtartxchange.org or by calling 800-838-3006. If not sold out, tickets are $27 at the door - adults only. Libations will be available for purchase. Oldcastle Theatre, located at 331 Main St., is an accessible facility. Call for specific accommodations.
