Gypsy Lane brings burlesque to Bennington

Posted

BENNINGTON — The Vermont Arts Exchange presents perennial favorite Gypsy Layne Cabaret and Company in two performances at Oldcastle Theatre, on Feb. 15 and 16, just in time for Valentine's Day. Doors for both nights open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8. This show is for mature audiences only.

Hailed by Berkshire Magazine as "a sexy highpoint of classic burlesque entertainment in the Berkshires," Gypsy Layne Cabaret and Company offers its hottest, zaniest Valentine's Day weekend in downtown Bennington yet. The Berkshires' first homegrown burlesque troupe enters its ninth season with a bang, and then some, offering two dazzling evenings of unabashedly body-positive entertainment. There's sexiness galore and laughs aplenty, punctuated by sizzling strips, alluring belly dance, live music, astounding swordplay, outrageous comedy, dynamic dance routines, and more.

Gypsy Layne's mission is to highlight burlesque as a vehicle for self-expression and self-empowerment. This tantalizing crew of saucy ladies and jaunty gents is ready to tease its way into your heart with its vivacious artistry, which has resonated with audiences all over New England and beyond for nearly a decade. "The Gypsies go out of their way to be cheeky. Theirs is not a watered-down striptease patched together with a few corny jokes. Gypsy Layne makes burlesque cool again," said Take Magazine.Tickets for this Basement Music Series concert are $22 in advance through www.vtartxchange.org, or by calling 800-838-3006. If not sold out, tickets are $26 at the door - adults only. Libations will be available for purchase, as will special Valentines Day chocolate treats and tickets to win a Valentine's raffle. Oldcastle Theatre is an accessible facility, call for specific accommodations.
