Guilford woman dies in Route 9 crash in Searsburg

SEARSBURG — A Guilford woman died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash late Sunday morning on Route 9.

Vermont State Police from the Shaftsbury Barracks said they responded at 11:42 a.m. to the scene near the Sleepy Hollow Road intersection in Searsburg.

Police said initial investigation revealed that Pooja Meyer, 19, of Guilford, was traveling east on Route 9 in a 1999 Honda Civic when the operator passed another vehicle.

After passing the vehicle, police said, Meyer lost control of the Honda and crossed over into the westbound lane, colliding with a 2020 Western Star truck driven by Richard Regan, 53, of Keene, N.H.

Meyer was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the VSP report. Police said she was wearing a safety belt.

Regan was transported to Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.

Shortly after the crash, State Police issued a release stating that Route 9 in Searsburg near the intersection with Sleepy Hollow Road would be closed for several hours because of the accident. Road conditions at the time of the crash were wet, police reported.
