Death considered suspicious

Body found in Roaring Branch not yet identified


BENNINGTON — Authorities are seeking the identity of a girl or woman whose body was found late Sunday morning in the Roaring Branch River near a floodwall off Caroline Drive in Bennington.

The death is considered suspicious, according to a media release, and police continue to investigate the circumstances.

Anyone who may have information is asked to call Detective Christopher Lauzon at the Bennington Police Department at 802-442-1030.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 11:35 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive person in the water.

Bennington Rescue Squad, Bennington Fire Department and the North Bennington Fire Department also were dispatched to the scene.

Arriving officers entered the Roaring Branch and immediately determined that the person was dead.  

Detectives from BPD's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Bennington County State's Attorney's Office all arrived at the scene to investigate.

No further information was available as of Sunday night.
