POWNAL — A 19-year-old Massachusetts man escaped injury Monday night when his car skidded on black ice on Route 7 and crashed, Vermont State Police said.

Police said Anthony Montoya, 19, of North Adams, was driving south on Route 7 when he lost control of his 2006 Toyota Camry. The car crossed the northbound lane and left the roadway, flipping at least once before coming to rest, police said.

Although he was not wearing a seat belt, Montoya suffered no apparent injuries, police said.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m near the intersection of Route 7 and School Street.

The Pownal Fire Department assisted at the scene of the crash, as did an off-duty deputy of the Bennington County Sheriff's Department.
