Dance: MAU, BBA place in opening meet

COLCHESTER — Dance teams from Mount Anthony Union High School and Burr and Burton Academy both placed in their first meet of the season on Saturday, at Colchester High School.

Mount Anthony's varsity finished third in the pom category, while BBA came in third in jazz. Both schools entered the varsity hip-hop competition but were not among the top three.

The MAU junior varsity was third in hip-hop and second in pom, while BBA's junior varsity was second in hip-hop.

South Burlington and Middlebury Union high schools swept the top spots in varsity competition at the six-team meet. South Burlington was first in pom and second in jazz, while Middlebury took first in varsity jazz and hip-hop.

The BBA and MAU teams will compete closer to home this coming Saturday, in a meet at Burr and Burton's E.H. Henry Gymnasium. Starting time is 1 p.m.

Dance is a Vermont Principals Association-sanctioned co-ed varsity sport, with state championships scheduled for February 15 at Vergennes High School.
